This is a suuuper common spot for couples to inquire with me at- in fact, they were a little bit advanced because they had started the ceremony permitting process, and once approved we got to be official!
Crystal Cove is such an incredible place that I have had the honor of photographing many many times. The peaceful, winding wooden boardwalk that meanders through the native plants (anyone planning to get married in the spring? I want to come back for the flowers!), the whistling wind far away from SoCal traffic, the views from the raised cliffs- it is an incredibly unique, actually affordable, and dang beautiful spot to get married.
They chose one of my “All Day” options, which is a lot more relaxed and easygoing coverage, instead of having to adhere to a strict timeline and schedule. We started by hanging out and getting ready at the nearby Art Hotel, headed over to Crystal Cove to photograph the first look, and let the day play out as they saw fit!

Shelby and Chris reached out a few months before their wedding with not very much solidified. They had the plan: 14 of their favorite people in total (the same number as our wedding!), the area that they were hoping to get married in, and the desire to have a photographer!

Chris actually MADE their arch from scratch- and it is one of the most sturdy and beautiful arches I’ve seen. More structurally sound than most professional venues, rental companies!
Custom joints, counter balance systems to be perfectly fine on uneven ground, AND it's collapsable for easy transportation!?
I told him he should sell the plans to it because it is *cheffs kiss*. Right now, it’s acting as a pergola in their back yard garden (:
About the Ceremony Venue: Pelican Point Boardwalk Overlook in Crystal Cove State Park
located at 8471 N. Coast Highway Laguna Beach, California 92651
Something to note about the venue: Since Crystal Cove is a state park, the permitting process to get married there is required, and be sure to read the fine print regarding fees! Parking is first come, first serve, and costs $15 per vehicle (or $50-$100 for a bus).
Additionally, while the walk to Pelican Point Overlook is on the relatively flat wooden boardwalk, it is about a quarter of a mile! So when planning for guest arrival, setting up decor, add a ton of extra time! A couple of Shelby and Chris’ guests set up- and they brought wagons, tennis shoes, and changed into their formal attire after (:
Reception Venue: The Farmhouse at Roger's Gardens
located at 2301 San Joaquin Hills Rd, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625
The Farmhouse was just about a tenish minute drive from the ceremony venue, and it was STUNNING! Shelby and Chris held their micro wedding reception /dinner party in the Gazebo, which felt so secluded and private. It could accomodate up to 20 people on weekends, and up to 30 people on weekdays.
Parking is free, and abundant, not hard to find a spot at all- and an easy close walk.
