Wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden

Tony and Paul had an amazing, intimate, and fun wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park!

They are both so full of love and humor- and were surrounded by their closest friends and family.

Instead of following tradition and getting ready separately, Tony and Paul chose to start their day side by side. It wasn’t about a big “reveal” later… it was about sharing the small, quiet moments leading up to their ceremony together. The laughter, the calm, even the nervous energy; they carried it together, and it set the tone for the rest of the day.

The Japanese Friendship Garden is already such a serene and intimate space, and in November, it feels especially peaceful with all the evergreens. Choosing the bridge over the creek as the backdrop to the ceremony, Tony and Paul’s ceremony unfolded with an honesty that had most everyone in tears. Their vows weren’t polished performances- they were personal, emotional, and deeply moving (it was getting a little troubling photographing with blurry eyes!)

Some weddings feel like they’re built around production; others are built around presence. Tony and Paul’s day at the Japanese Friendship Garden was the latter—a wedding rooted in emotion, comfort, and a real sense of togetherness.

What made their wedding memorable wasn’t grand gestures or over-the-top details—it was the balance of quiet intimacy and genuine joy.

After the ceremony, the evening shifted into celebration. Their first dance was slow and tender, the kind of moment where the rest of the world seems to fall away. But then, in true Tony and Paul fashion, the music changed and they broke into a lively dance number that had everyone cheering. Kelly Clarkson and Britney Spears filled the night, and the dance floor quickly became one of the highlights of the evening.

Tony and Paul’s wedding was a reminder that the best celebrations aren’t always about following tradition or putting on a show. Sometimes, it’s about leaning into what feels right for you, whether that’s sharing your morning, crying through your vows, or dancing to Britney Spears under the lights.

Their November wedding at the Japanese Friendship Garden wasn’t just beautiful—it was honest, joyful, and deeply them.
